Tel Aviv’s White City: Character Beyond the Apartment
Balconies, shaded windows and street proportions shape the experience of a home. An architectural perspective on choosing a property in Tel Aviv.

When comparing apartments in Tel Aviv, look beyond the interior photographs. The building, the street and the way light enters the rooms are part of everyday life, and the White City offers a distinctive architectural setting.
Recognising the architectural language
Tel Aviv-Yafo Municipality describes International Style buildings through features including flat roofs, strip windows, shading ledges and rounded corners. UNESCO inscribed the White City of Tel-Aviv on the World Heritage List in 2003. This recognition concerns an urban ensemble, not a guarantee about any individual apartment.
Walk the street as well as the rooms
On a visit, notice the relationship between balconies and the street, the orientation of windows and the condition of the shared entrance. These observations can help you compare homes according to how you want to live, rather than treating architectural character as a label.
Ask property-specific questions
Do not assume that every older building has the same preservation status or that a general neighbourhood description establishes what changes are possible. Before including renovation in your plans, ask a qualified professional to check the specific building’s planning and preservation information.
Architecture is one element of a balanced search. Combine it with the apartment’s condition, layout and your own priorities. We can help focus the search; technical and planning assessments should come from the relevant specialists.
